*I'm aware that the fact that I am blogging on a Saturday night seems to contradict the title of this blog post, but I am exhausted. Besides, such judgement would be beside the point, because the point is...
I feel like I'm finally acting like a 23 year old and enjoying life again - YAY!
I am staying "in" tonight due to an obligation (mostly) and I am so exhausted from last night's activities (partly).
Went up to Hollywood with Ally to see one of my most very favorite bands, Minus the Bear (at the lovely Wiltern).
It was honestly just so nice to get out of Newport and do something "different". Anyone who knows me will tell you that my favorite road trips usually take about 6 hours and end up somewhere in the greater Bay Area... So, it is good for me to explore and have fun a bit closer to home (it's a bit more logical that way).
And explore we did.

Since LA traffic is so unpredictable, we decided to get up there relatively early. Well, we weren't that early at all, but we had time to park and search for something to eat. Seeing that the Wiltern is located in the center of Korea Town, we decided to step outside of our comfort zones and try some authentic Korean fare. We definitely didn't look the part when we walked in (I always get stared at like a circus freak because I am so tall, but that's nothing new! ha). Our waitress could barely speak english, which I actually consider a "plus" in these sort of situations. The food is probably AUTHENTIC in the truest sense of the word.
Oh, and it was. I actually don't really have any idea what I consumed there last night. We ordered some kind of cold noodle dish and chicken bulgoki (whatever that is...it did taste good, however).
What happened next was perplexing: The wait staff brought us several small plates that we didn't order. We could only tell what one of the dishes were, kinda (cucumber that was soaked in some sort of spicy - pretty vague). We tried nearly all of it, except for the "fish-head salad" or whatever you'd like to call this pretty dish below.
Needless to say, it was an experience. It was hilarious. We had no idea what we were doing or what we were eating, and the waitresses could definitely tell we were rookies. Fun had by all, I think.
I'm just excited I stepped out of my routine a bit. The last few months of my life have been very structured and mundane. It's nice to rebel against that sometimes! (Especially considering I might be thrust back into that boring studying lifestyle as soon as I receive my score next week!!!)
We had some food and a few great laughs and made it over to the show across the street. Some great bands opened for MTB (Tim Kasher was especially great - look up "There Must Be Something I've Lost"), which always points to a great show (in my opinion). There was a good crowd, not too crowded, just enough people. I had the best time. They were better than I'd expected - and I expected a great deal from them. I mean, I had been waiting 5 years to see them. So amazing. I'd see them again tonight if I could.
I even bought a shirt :) I won't be taking it off anytime soon. Gosh, great show. Awesome weekend thus far.
Don't let yourself forget to have fun. Ever.
[Update: I ended up dragging my tired ass out last night. Thanks, Redbull! It was only for a few hours, but totally worth it. Had fun. I'm 23 for f***sake. Spontaneity is good.]
